As part of the 2008-2009 budget an additional $1.6 million was approved to increase accessibility to 742 new wheelchair ramps. While all future sidewalks must have accessibility in mind during construction, this funding was allocated to update current walkways.

The money came in the form of three change orders, since the ramps were not originally part of the two-year program, but all future street and sidewalk maintenance programs have ADA compliance built in, said Public Works Director Majed Al-Ghafry.
